Background:
28 years experience carving stone.
- Attended the Dayton Art Institute.
- Employed by the Vermont Marble Co. 1974-78; Trained in the Italian tradition of monumental and architectural stone carving.
- Since 1978: Self-employed as masonry contractor, building restoration contractor and stone carver, specializing in remodeling and recarving architectural ornament.
Specialties:
I serve the monumental and architectural industries, and do custom carving and restoration in marble, slate, and limestone.
Personal Statement:
Fate saved me from the life of the "artist wannabe" when it placed me at the feet of the true masters of the traditional sculptor's craft. What was mysterious was slowly over the years revealed, and the debt I owe my predecessors is paid daily by the demand of my craft.
The traditional carver dominates the stone, but only with her permission. Any lack of respect leads to failure. That is the tightrope we walk. That is what separates us from the pretenders. The traditional carver has to produce the expected results.
